Hey ladies, join us for an evening of fun with Pizza and Billiards. "Special K" will be hosting the December event on Saturday, Dec. 20th at 6pm. We'll start the evening off at Red Brick Pizza (200 S. B Street in Downtown San Mateo off 3rd Ave.) and then move across the street to B-Street Billiards @ 164 S. B Street. We'll reserve about 3 pool tables for our party. Regarding dinner, to keep things simple we'll most likely keep separate dinner tabs and then work out a shared cost for the pool tables...it'll be relatively inexpensive. However, we'll go with the rule "If you don't play - you don't pay"...simple as that. Feel free to invite your women friends to join us!

The first annual Cheryl's Big Idea Thanksgiving. It's ultra-cool and superfun, but if you have plans with parents etc., etc., you can stop reading now:-)
For everyone else, on Thanksgiving day, we rise and shine and go to the Turkey Trot in San Jose and leisurely walk the course. Only 5K and they usually have Starbucks at these affairs. I'll be the one finding it. $35 if you register now, $40 day of Turkey - goes to very good causes. Carpool from Cheryl's Mtn. View place.

Then, we go to Don Giovanni's in Mountain View for a nice, free meal. OK, don't think I've now completely lost my mind and turned into an energy anorexic, obsessing over personal carbon emissions to an unhealthy degree [from the New York Times, it's my new favorite phrase]. Seriously, lots of people in Mountain View eat at Giovanni's on Thanksgiving. They effeciently serve a quite good traditional meal. Then everyone can come to Cheryl's house for pie. I'll provide a pie from Draeger's and some ice cream.

We could then see a DVD if anyone is so inclined. Cathryn and I are debating the movie. I was thinking of Bring It On, because you have to watch Cheerleading movies or Women's Prison movies on Thanksgiving, right? We can all be thankful we are not in either category. But, if you were in either category at any time, you get extra points for sharing your stories. Cathryn is not so keen on these choices and has suggested the quite charming movie Pieces of April.

And finally, there will be door prizes!!! I have a sack of DVDs that need to be set free. Some are quite good and even some lesbo ones. OK, that's it. Let me know if you're interested in our amazing adventure. Everyone is welcome!

Movie Night - Saturday, Oct 25th @ 7pm

This evening marks a return to the format that made BLToC famous! The feature attraction will be the classic Mel Brooks film "Young Frankenstein." Notable among the star-studded cast is Cloris Leachman, now appearing on Dancing with the Stars.

You're welcome to bring your favorite beverage and munchies. Please plan to stick around after the film to offer your critique...or just to socialize.

Bonfire and potluck - Saturday, Nov 1st @ 6pm

This will be an outdoor party around a fire circle, so please dress accordingly. In
keeping with the campfire setting, There will have soft drinks, s'mores, and hotdogs to eat and a grill will be available. There are some chairs, but you might want to bring your own lawn chair, just in case.

Here's news from Chef Bev, who is hosting our August event in Belmont:

It's that time of the month again ladies! Saturday, August 23rd @ 2:00 pm. BBQ potluck and bouncy house! I'll provide the southern-style bbq, beans, bounce house, and you gals can sign up to bring whatever you want.

We need the following, so if you want to bring any of these items that would be great: hamburger buns, cole slaw, salad (your choice), appetizer (your choice), dessert (your choice). If you have something else you'd like to bring, that would be great too. Oh, don't forget your brews, vino, pellegrino, etc.

Here's news from group co-moderator, Audrey, regarding our next event:

There is a meadery down in Sunnyvale that does tastings of their mead, hard cider, cyser, and honey beer. I've been once before, and can confirm that their products are tres yummy!

The tasting bar is open Tues through Fri from 1 pm to 5 pm. Tracey and I are planning to go down on Friday, August 1st – time to be determined. Anyone who would like to join us is most welcome. The website is here: http://www.rabbitsfootmeadery.com/

Since we will be driving down that day from Nevada City, let me know if you would like to join us so that we can make sure to all be there at the same time. RSVP to mccombs_zhuangzi@yahoo.com. If there's going to be a big group, I want to call ahead and warn them, too.

Be aware that their tasting pours are generous, and a full tasting is up to 9 different products. So, be prepared to designate a driver. Should be a good time!

BBQ, Beer, & Bocce
Saturday, July 19th

Let's get together and enjoy the summer weather with a barbeque and game night on my patio in San Mateo. Drop by anytime after 4pm.

So, what should you bring?

Food: Something to throw on the barbie or a side dish to share.

Drink: Your favorite brew or other beverage. Just one caveat, this is a no Bud zone (baaad memories).

Games: Teach us your favorite game or play bocce on the lawn.
